MBTI types in entrepreneurship
All 16 Myers-Briggs personality types and the famous founders that match each. INTJ strategists, INTP analysts, ENTJ commanders, ENFP campaigners, and more.
Across the 30 founders profiled on this site, the most common assessed MBTI type is INTP (7), then INTJ (5), then ENFJ (5). Intuitive Thinking types (INTJ, INTP, ENTJ, ENTP) account for 16 of the 30, far above their share of the general population. That is worth reading carefully: this is a small, hand-picked set of unusually well-documented founders, so it says something about who gets written about, not that one type builds better companies. The types are assessments from public behaviour, not tests these people sat.

How MBTI relates to the Big Five
The two frameworks are not rivals so much as different resolutions of the same picture. Four of the five Big Five dimensions line up with an MBTI axis: extraversion with E/I (r=.74), openness with N/S (r=.72), agreeableness with T/F (r=.40), and conscientiousness with J/P, more loosely. The correlations were published by McCrae and Costa in the Journal of Personality in 1989 and have held up since.
The gap is the fifth dimension. MBTI has no axis for emotional stability, which is the trait entrepreneurship research ties most directly to founder persistence past the three-year mark (Zhao, Seibert and Lumpkin, Journal of Management, 2010). MBTI also sorts people into boxes where the Big Five measures degree, so two people one point either side of a cutoff get opposite letters.
That is why this site scores you on the Big Five first and derives your MBTI type from those scores. You get the four-letter code, which is useful shorthand, without losing the degree behind it. The derivation and its thresholds are described in the methodology.
